“The symbolic associations of the butterfly are endless. The subject matter lends itself to being interpreted with different expressive values. And this is what the artists have done, involved in and inspired by the theme, presenting in this exhibition their original tales “on the wing” in which are woven elements such as: metamorphosis, weightlessness, freedom. The chrysalis is the symbol of the human being which contains all the potential of life and the butterfly which derives from it is the symbol of resurrection. The butterfly is especially a symbolic animal. It has always been so since days of old and for all the peoples who have left traces of it in art and in objects of everyday use. A metaphysical basis is guarded in the symbol which presupposes hidden affinities between the realm of the visible and the invisible: the meeting point between time and eternity. The butterfly has to go through an evolutionary process of growth: from being a chrysalis it reaches a level of higher maturity until the last phase which enables it to fly. The butterfly is the symbol of psychic transformation, of change which is happening in life: it is an admonishment to “see” and “to hear” beauty and the potential which are present and to express them. The butterfly does not live to feed but to love and conceive, and for this reason it is wrapped in a splendid gown which has the colours of the rainbow and shows all its beauty and joy for life.”
